Plus

It took me a while this year to decide how I would observe Lent. I've been so inspired by friends and former students who found very meaningful ways to focus on the things of the Kingdom last year.

Here's my dilemma: There's been a lot of "cutting out" in my life lately. In this season of small children at home and a need for high, high productivity at work, I have cut fluff and then cut more fluff and then cut more fluff. And in the process, I've cut some things that are not fluff. So it's not the things I'm doing that are keeping me from God right now; it's the things I'm not doing.

I need to be in the Scriptures. Neeeeed. Like Rosaria Butterfield, who tells a powerful story of what happened when she "gorged" on The Word. Or like my friend Janet who has been transformed by reading through the Bible in 90 days.

So my Lenten discipline this year is one of addition, not subtraction: as much of the Gospels as I can get in the next 40 (+) days. Three chapters a day at minimum, but hopefully more at times. Preparing for the celebration of Jesus' resurrection by walking close to him through his Word.

I'll let you know what happens.

  1. Sounds like a great idea, Lindy! I pray it will be a rich, rewarding 40 days for you.
