My New Assignment

I had to publish the last post, in part, to explain why it has taken me so dang long to publish this post.

It's not that I didn't have any news about a new job. It's just that life kind of got overwhelming. Plus, to be honest, I was dealing with some emotional stuff about the end of my old job that was different from what I expected, so I just didn't know what to write for a while.

But please, let me tell you the story, because it's a good one.

It's Not What You Know...

It starts with a hunch I had even before I was told my position at the Institute was being eliminated. One of the coolest things about that job was the natural networking that happened there. I worked with about 2000 students in my 11 years at FLI. Many of them I'm still in contact with, at least casually. And for the last three years, I was responsible for placing students at internship sites, which means I got to know a lot of leaders in a lot of businesses throughout Colorado Springs.

I had this hunch that my next job, whatever it was, would come out of that strong network. Which came true.

Not SIX HOURS after I found out I was losing my job, I had a lead for the position I now hold. It's at one of my old internship sites. Two of my alumni work there. My former boss's wife works there. (She's the one who told me about the position, so I definitely owe her lunch.)

So now I am Marketing Communication Manager at Glazier Clinics. As in football coaching clinics. Not medical clinics. Glazier is the country's largest provider of educational resources for football coaches (mostly high school coaches.)

For those who are interested in the technicalities, I am actually an independent contractor, not an employee of Glazier, simply because that arrangement worked best for everyone involved. I am still learning what the job really looks like, but I know it uses my gifts in writing and editing, plus it's very flexible, pays well, and isn't full time, so I get to spend more time with my kids! I literally got everything I wanted back when I wrote this post

Well, everything except a six-week sabbatical. I figured that since I had a severance package from Focus, I'd tell people I was available to start work at a new job mid-September, and I did say that, but no dice. Fall is the busy season for Glazier marketing, so they asked me to start mid-August. Felt like a compliment to me, even if I didn't get to enjoy not working for as long as I'd hoped.

Here's what's front and center in my mind as I begin this new job. I'm sure you'll be hearing more about these things in the near future.

1) The learning curve. It's been a long time since I've been this new at a job. I forgot how exhausting it is to start from scratch on everything!

2) Me ... in marketing?? I have never considered myself a marketer—always a journalist. But I started learning in my last role how valuable a strong editorial process and a good editorial eye can be to an organization's marketing efforts. I'm excited to get to put those lessons into practice and learn lots more.

3) God is good. I never in a million years would have guessed I'd be working next for a company that hosts football coaching clinics. But as it turns out, this is God's perfect provision for this season of life and especially for this season of our family. And He didn't even wait long enough to let me get nervous about it. I was offered the position before I even worked my last day at Focus.

I'm thankful.

  1. Way to go, Lindy! I'm so glad God had preordained a place for you to land. And how fun that you A - get to work with institute alums/family and B - you get to talk about football (I can share with you the total of four football-y words I know, if you ever need to get schooled).

  8. It is inescapable that man is always attached to the old things in his life. Not just any old job, but multiple things can be added to this list. But I'm glad you managed to deal with some emotional things about losing your old job. Coursework Writing Services

  9. This assignment seems to be great fun and interesting. But in MBA assignment writing is a tedious job to do, So we used to prefer to take assignment help from web portals like Unifolks as it takes a lot of time and effort to do an assignment ourselves.
